“There are no ugly women, just lazy ones.”
A little effort and the right products can always turn any girl to a pretty diva. If you are a beginner in makeup and is clueless on what to get to start buliding your collection, here are a few guidelines to help you.
As a beginner, it would be better to start with drugstore makeup and as you learn more about the products and techniques, go for the high end ones. Read on Makeup Collection for Beginners to build your first makeup kit.

The right foundation can always change the way your skin looks. It can make your skin look brighter, clearer and flawless. You should never choose a lighter shade or a darker shade (unless you are trying to highlight and contour your face) as the results might not be very pleasant. Always choose the foundation which is closest to your complexion.
Foundation comes in liquid, powder, cream and in mousse forms. Most common and easiest to use, is the liquid foundation. Powder foundation is best suited for oily skin.
Recommended drugstore foundations are Revlon Colorstay, Loreal truematch, Neutrogena Healthy Skin, Bourjois HealthyMix, Lakme Invisible Finish.
BB Cream/CC cream
It might not be a great idea to wear foundation everyday as it might be heavy on skin. If you want a natural looking skin with minimal coverage and even skin tone, go for a BB or CC cream. They are basically tinted moisturisers with skin benefiting ingredients. You can choose a BB/ CC cream according to your skin type. BB stands for Blemish Balm and CC stands for Color Corrector.
Recommended products are Maybelline Dream Fresh BB cream, Garnier BB cream, Lakme CC cream, Rimmel BB cream, Ponds BB cream.
Compact powder/Loose powder
Once you apply foundation or Bb cream, you need to set in so that they stay longer especially if you have oily/combo skin. These powders also help to get rid of some amount of shine from the face. Dry skinned people can avoid powder as it tend to make skin dryer.
Most recommended drugstore compact/loose powders are Maybelline Dream Matte Powder, Lorael True Match, Rimmel StayMatte, Nuetrogena Healthy skin, Lakme Perfect Radiance.
A little concealer to cover your undereye dark circles and blemishes on the skin, will make you look fresher and flawless. Select a concealer which is one shade lighter than your skin tone and then set it with a powder in the same shade as that of the skin. Concealers also come in stick form and liquid form.
Warm a bit of product by rubbing it between fingers before application so that they blend easily. Dab it, not rub it on desired areas and then set it with powder.
Recommended drudstore concealers are Maybelline Age Rewind Concealer, Revlon Photoready Concealer, Nyx Concealer in a jar, Garnier Roll on Concealer for undereyes, Lakme Absolut Concealer.
Eyeliners comes in liquid/gel/pencil forms and in a variety of colors. For a beginner best suited will be a Pencil eyeliner. Using an eyeliner can make your eyes well defined. You should really have a black or brown eyeliner for the natural, everyday look.
Colorful eyeliners can make your eyes pop without much effort. For larger looking eyes, a white eyeliner on the waterline can do the trick.
Recommended drugstore eyeliners are Maybelline Colossal Kajal, Esence Kajal pencils, Elle18 liquid eyeliner, Lakme liquid liners, Maybelline gel liners, Nyx curve liner, Lakme Eyeconic Kajal.
A mascara can make your eyes look wider and more awake and in just a few seconds. You can just use a BB cream and Mascara to look fresh and pretty.
Most recommended drugstore mascaras are Maybelline Colossal Volume Mascara, Maybelline falsies Mascara, Lakme Eyeconic Mascara.
Tinted lipbalms are the best way to kickstart wearing color on lips. They will soon give you the confidence to experiment with beautiful lipcolors. These lipbalms not just give the color but also provide moisturisation to the lips.
Favourite tinted lipbalms are Nivea Fruity Shine, Maybelline Bloom, Maybelline Baby Lips, LipIce
A lipstick can change your look from a cutie to hotie with just one swipe. Beginners will always like to start with more subtle, natural colors and then gradually find out the colors they love the most and also suit them the best.
You can never go wrong with peaches, pinks, corals and nudes.
My favourite drugstore products are Revlon lip butters, Nyx Round lipsticks, Nyx matte lipsticks.
Fingers can be the best tool for makeup for a beginner, but using makeup brushes help in a better and flawless finish. A lot of companies has come up with essential brush kits which are reasonably priced.
My recommendations are Ecotools, Real Techniques, Sigma (slightly pricier but worth the price) essential brush sets. You can also buy individual brushes like a foundation brush (Highly recommend Sigma F80) or sponge wedges and a few eye brushes like Eyeshadow brush, Brow brush, Blending brush and a Blush brush.
Hope these tips helped. What are your recommendations for beginners?
Beautifully yours ,
